Distillation really is the word of 2026.
The NSA, CISA, and FBI are now warning companies about malicious distillation attacks and recommending ways to mitigate them.
Apparently, even DeepSeek-V3 and R1 were partly trained through distillation.
But you know which company wasn't mentioned?
ByteDance.
They're the sleeping dragon. Everyone is completely underestimating them.
On top of not distilling American models they have China's largest user base, the most compute, and an insanely cracked research team.
